Legal
Terms of Service
Last updated June 2026
Stub notice. This is a pre-launch draft of MarDat's terms of
service, pending review by legal counsel. It reflects our current intent and
is not yet legal advice. Items in [brackets] are placeholders to
be finalised before public launch.
Using MarDat
MarDat helps recreational boat owners track maintenance, monitor boat health, and stay on top of upkeep. You may use MarDat for your own boats and keep your account secure. You're responsible for the accuracy of the data you enter.
Not professional advice
MarDat is an organizational tool. Reminders, schedules, and health scores are aids — not a substitute for a qualified marine surveyor, mechanic, or your manufacturer's guidance. You remain responsible for the safe operation and seaworthiness of your vessel.
Accounts & access
MarDat is free to start. You must provide accurate sign-up details, keep your credentials secure, and are responsible for activity under your account. You must be old enough to form a binding contract in your jurisdiction. We may change features over time as the product evolves.
Acceptable use
Don't misuse MarDat: no unlawful activity, no attempts to break, overload, or reverse-engineer the service, no accessing other users' data, and no uploading content you don't have the right to. We may suspend or terminate accounts that abuse the service or violate these terms.
Your content
You keep ownership of the data you enter (boats, records, notes, photos). You grant us only the limited permission needed to host and process it so we can provide the service. You can export or delete your data as described in our Privacy Policy.
Our intellectual property
MarDat, including its software, design, and branding, belongs to [Legal entity name]. These terms grant you a personal, non-transferable, revocable right to use the service — not any ownership of it.
Availability
MarDat is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis during early access. We work to keep it reliable but do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free service.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, MarDat and [Legal entity name] are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for any loss arising from your reliance on the app's reminders, schedules, or health scores. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be excluded by law (including your statutory consumer rights). [Confirm any consumer-law carve-outs for your jurisdiction.]
Termination
You can stop using MarDat and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or end access if you violate these terms or to protect the service or its users. On termination, your data is handled as described in the Privacy Policy.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the product evolves. If we make material changes, we'll take reasonable steps to let you know; continued use after an update means you accept the revised terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of [governing-law jurisdiction], and disputes are subject to the courts of [venue], without affecting any mandatory consumer protections in your country of residence.
